Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev clearly said he would stay away from politics.
While talking to reporters Yog Guru said that his political role was ''limited'' to ensure that the country was governed by good people. When asked if he will support any political party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Ramdev replied that he viewed himself as a “non-political” person in service of the country.
According to a leading news agency, he said, “I have devoted myself to larger issues such as nation-building, character building, education, agriculture & health, among others. Hence, I see myself as a non-political, independent person who is in service of mother India.” He further said, “I work with the philosophy of the nation first, hence, my political role is limited to ensure that the country is governed by good people.”
Earlier in June this year, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah had met the yoga guru regarding his party's Sampark for Samarthan (Contact for Support) initiative, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP president also asked Ramdev's support for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"We are meeting all those who supported us in the formation of the BJP-led government in 2014. We are apprising them of all our work and efforts. We are also seeking support from them for the 2019 elections," Shah told reporters after the meeting.
In past, Ramdev was seen praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership as well as the achievements of his government over the last four years.
