After Election Commission Of India announced that Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines will be introduced before Lok Sabha elections , a unique programme called ’democracy on wheels’ began in New Delhi to spread awareness around voters in parliamentary constituencies in Delhi.
According to reports the vehicle will move around public places like colleges, malls, and streets and voters will be allowed to check the EVM and VVPAT and do trials. A street play will be performed for more awareness and participation of voters.
The truck will also contain a LCD which will show a documentary on the process of using the machines. This move is taken by the EC so that the voters can cross check their votes. A vehicle will be stationed at each 70 constituencies in Delhi. This is the very first time when VVPAT is used in the voting criteria of our country.
Apart from EVM and VVPAT, Booth Level Agents (BAL) will help in more awareness of the process.
“Every political party has to appoint booth level agents across the 13,816 polling stations in Delhi. There must be an agent per booth. It is an important exercise to check how many voters are there in each booth, names that have been deleted or moved out. However, despite repeated reminders not all political parties have appointed as many agents,” member of Election Commission said.
