Congress General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, at a rally in the Ambala district of Haryana, compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the character of the evil Kaurava prince Duryodhana from the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
Vadra said that the country has “never forgiven arrogance”, and likened it to Duryodhana who suffered a crushing defeat in the Mahabharata war. She said that though Lord Krishna tried to make him understand, Duryodhana went on “to capture him”. She further quoted renowned poet Dinkar who had said, “When someone is about to be destroyed, their wisdom ends first”.
Referring to Modi’s recent controversial statement at a rally in Uttar Pradesh, where the PM had termed Vadra’s father and former PM late Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated, as “Bhrashtachari No. 1”, Vadra said that BJP leaders always “seek votes in the name of martyrs”, and never speak about their unfulfilled promises.
In response, BJP National President Amit Shah challenged Vadra to see who will be “Duryodhana and Arjuna” on May 23, the day of election results.
