BJP President Amit Shah, at a rally in West Bengal, launched an attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for terming the implementation of the NRC an “election gimmick”, and for raising questions over the IAF airstrike on a terror training camp in Pakistan, to “appease” her minority vote bank and “indulging in vote bank politics”.
Shah resolved to implement the National Register of Citizens in the state, just like they had done in Assam. He also promised to “free Bengal from the autocracy of Mamata Banerjee”. He went on to say that the bringing in of the NRC would “remove all infiltrators from India, except Buddha, Hindus and Sikhs”, a comment that caused an internet uproar, with citizens pan-India accusing the BJP of trying to divide the country.
The BJP President, who is contesting from the Gandhinagar constituency of Gujarat in the parliamentary elections, claimed that “the goons of  TMC have killed more than 60 karyakartas of the BJP”, and that the people of India have “made up their mind” to vote the BJP back into power.
