In a case of gross disrespect to one of the topmost constitutional authorities in the country, the Election Commission, Shiv Sena veteran Sanjay Raut, at a rally in Mira-Bhayander district of Maharashtra on Sunday, said, “To hell with the rules, and the laws. The Model Code of Conduct will also be handled. We are the kind of people who need to speak out whatever is there in our hearts and minds.”
Raut received a lot of flak from citizens and politicians alike for the comment, which displays blatant disregard for the EC and the MCC which has been in effect since over a month, and is implemented to insure fair and just elections in the country.
The Rajya Sabha MP, who is the editor of the Marathi newspaper, Saamna, had been issued a notice by the EC two weeks ago, for  violating the MCC by writing a column in his newspaper, where he labelled CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar a “bottle of poison”, and appealed to Shiv Sena ally, BJP, to defeat Kumar through any means, even if it involves “tampering of the EVMs”.
