Tamil cinema leading star, Rajinikanth, who is worshipped by many people in Southern India, declared that he would not be fighting the assembly bypolls in the state to be conducted at the same time as the upcoming 17th Lok Sabha elections from April 11 to May 19.

Rajinikanth, who had announced his party, without even giving it a name, and using the umbrella of the Rajini Makkal Mandrams, around 15 months back, has not yet launched his party officially. The cinema sensation had also mentioned last month that he would abstain himself from contesting in the Lok Sabha elections, and  would instead focus on the 2021 state assembly polls.

In an interview, the popular actor had advised the citizens to vote for a party, irrespective of whether the party is regional or national, which would provide a permanent solution to the water issue in the state, which includes the Cauvery river sharing problem, as well as the lack of water supply in certain parts of Tamil Nadu.

However, with the approach of the Tamil Nadu assembly bypolls in 18 constituencies in a month, when asked by media persons if he would field candidates, the newly-turned politicians replied in the negative. He also refrained from answering which party would he be supporting in the bypoll elections.
