A couple of weeks after the Supreme Court passed a judgement annulled the rights of tribals under the The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, tribal bodies across the country held a shutdown, demanding that the Government give them back their forest rights.
Rahul Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making  “false vows and promises” to tribals, and that there was a “constant attack” on their right to life by the Centre.
Gandhi said that he was standing in support of the tribals in this time of “crisis”, when their Constitutional rights were being tinkered with.
He further added that the government is responsible for forcing the tribals to leave their forest dwelling, where they have lived in harmony for decades, and take to the streets in protest.
