Continuing his attack on former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Gandhi family, during the term of Rajiv Gandhi, used the former Indian Navy flagship INS Viraat as there “personal taxi”.
Referring to the vacation taken by the Gandhi family to the Lakshadweep islands in 1987, Modi said that not only was the aircraft carrier stationed at the island for the ten day vacation period, but also Navy personnel were “put on service of Rajiv Gandhi and his family”. Modi claimed that it was a “compromise of national security”.
Earlier, Modi had accused the former PM of being “Bhrashtachari No.1”, earning harsh criticism from opposition parties, including Gandhi’s children- Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Rajiv Gandhi, a Bharat Ratna recipient, was assassinated by a suicide bomber from the LTTE in 1991.
