Less than 3 days before the Lok Sabha elections in the Palamu constituency of Jharkhand, Maoists destroyed the BJP election office in the area and set ablaze equipment involved in bridge construction work.
This is the second incident of nuisance caused by anti-social elements during these elections, the first one being on April 11, the first phase of elections, where Naxals placed an improvised explosive device in a district in Maharashtra during polling.
On Thursday night, the Maoists executed a bomb blast at the BJP election office, and shouted slogans, throwing pamphlets, urging people to boycott the elections.
Later the group reached Turi village under Harihargunj Police Station area and torched a generator, a mixture machine and the shed of the labourers where a bridge was being constructed at Batane river.
Police teams reached the spot and were conducting investigation. Palamu is among the first three constituencies to witness elections in the state, on April 29. The other 11 constituencies will conduct polling in three more phases, from May 6 to May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
