Lalu’s sons at loggerheads again

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, who are infamous for their public fights, once again were on opposite ends of the spectrum, this time over the issue of which candidate should be fielded from the Jahanabad constituency in Bihar.
A few weeks ago, Tej Pratap had announced his decision to fight the ongoing 17th general elections as an independent candidate, but did not end up following through that declaration. He also claimed that his brother is surrounded by vicious “courtiers” who wish to create problems among the two.
While Tej Pratap wanted his close aide Chandra Prakash as the candidate, Tejashwi finally decided to field Surendra Yadav. Tej Pratap then launched his own party- Lalu Rabri Morcha.
At a rally, Tej Pratap alleged that Surendra Yadav is an “agent of the RSS”, a “sycophant”, and a guard of Lalu. He said that Surendra is an arms-dealer, and a man of “dirty thinking”.
He further claimed that his father’s absence, who is currently in jail for a fodder scam case, has led to wrong people being given the ticket from the party.
The seat is currently represented by Dr. Arun Kumar of the UPA. It will witness polling in the last and seventh phase of the elections. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
