Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, who was scheduled to conduct a rally in the Siliguri district of West Bengal on Sunday, faced an obstacle in his entry to the state on Saturday.

Gandhi’s helicopter was denied permission to land in the Siliguri police ground, and the Siliguri Police Commissioner, BL Meena said that “a lot of vehicles were parked there”, and thus there was a lack of space.

Congress candidate Shankar Malakar from Darjeeling said that permission had been sought a week earlier, but the police commissioner denied permission at the last minute. He expressed concern over whether Gandhi would be able to conduct his rally at the scheduled date or not. Meena denied having ever receiving the permission application.
