Former Gujarat lawmaker joins BJP before Lok Sabha elections 2019

Asha Patel former lawmaker of Gujarat on Saturday announced her membership in Bharatiya Janata Party. Gujarat lawmaker Asha Patel who quit Congress before few days has now joined BJP.  Patel and her supporters were inducted to the BJP at the party's ''Cluster Sammelan'' in North Gujarat's Patan.

Patel’s leave from the Congress is considered to be a conclusion of Congress party’s in-fight and diminishing relations among the members. Gujarat Congress President Jitu Vaghani on Saturday said that Asha Patel left Congress on her will and there was no kind of pressure. She did not had any deal with the BJP and decided to join BJP in the path of doing good for the people.

Vaghani stated “We welcome Ashaben in our party. There is no question of any deal between her and the BJP. Our party never indulges in horse-trading. She has joined the BJP to serve the people in a better way,"

On Thursday, Ms. Patel had a meeting with other members and supporters and announced that her party members insisted her to join the ruling party. Asha Patel had been elected from Mehsana's Unjha seat in the 2017 Assembly polls. She had defeated BJP veteran Naran Patel.

Asha is likely to contest from the BJP side in the coming Lok Sabha elections 2019.
