Former finance minister P Chidambaram on Friday criticizes BJP government’s move and various changes in the budget 2019.

Chidambaram questions how the growth figures have increased when the employment rates have been the lowest in last 45 years. When the Modi government’s growth figure of 2016-2017 was shown he smirked and said then we should have one more round of demonetisation.

The data, released a day before the budget, indicated that the highest growth rate during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was recorded at 8.2 per cent in financial year 2016-17 - the year demonetisation was announced.

The government also revised its estimated GDP growth for financial year 2017-18, which pushed it up from 6.7 per cent to 7.2 per cent.

Chidambaram said that if the demonetization year proved to be the growth year then there should be another round of demonetization for more benefits and growth.
