Another BJP stalwart shifted towards Congress before the LS polls
Ramkishna Kusmaria, a senior BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh leader on Saturday announced his shift towards the Congress party. Kusmaria joined Congress on Saturday in presence of senior leader and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
After many leaders like former chief minister Babulal Gaur, Sartaj Singh, Kusum Mehdele and Raghunandan Sharma left Bharatiya Janata Party and joined Congress this time a prominent BJP member left the party and aligned with its rival.
Speculations are rife that Kusmaria shares equal contribution in the defeat of two BJP leaders in Damoh and Pahariya seats in the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections 2018. Kamal Nath, the incumbent Chief Minister of MP congratulated him for his support to the party.
Kusmaria served as the agriculture minister in MP and won the Khajuraho seat in Lok Sabha in 2014. He has served as the member of parliament for a quiet long between 1991 to 1999. Bharatiya Janata Party likely to face a huge challenge the leader’s void in the party.
In December, the Congress emerged as the largest party in the statewinning with a thin majority with the BJP. While the Congress has bagged 114 seats in the state, the BJP managed to get 109 seats. The BahujanSamaj Party (BSP) won two seats and the Samajwadi Party (SP) one. Chief Shivraj Singh Chouhan lost his powers and Congress leader Kamal Nath became the Chief Minister of the heartland state Madhya Pradesh.
